Separate the charger price from the installation price

Do not assume three-phase or a full board replacement
The Victorian Government’s home-charging guidance explains that dedicated wall chargers require their own circuitry and that single-phase charging can meet many drivers’ daily needs. The vehicle’s AC charging limit, your parking time and household demand matter alongside the charger’s advertised rating.
A supply upgrade is not automatically required. Ask whether the existing supply, a suitable charging schedule or compatible load management can meet the need. If an upgrade is recommended, the quote should explain why and separate that work from the charger installation itself.
Keep purchase costs and running costs separate
The installation bill is only one part of ownership. Charging costs depend on energy used, charging losses and your electricity tariff. App subscriptions or optional services can also affect ongoing costs. Confirm which functions continue if you do not pay for a subscription or if the internet is unavailable.
Compare warranty terms for the charger and the installation separately. Ask who handles a fault and whether removal, return freight or a replacement visit is covered. Do not assume that a product warranty includes every labour cost.
